Well noted, I corrected the article and used capacity instead of availability. On the other hand if you plan to use HVDC connections to substitute for less sunlight in winter you still need to calculate with a massive overcapacity in the south to compensate the loss of power in the north. Presuming you don't want to impose blackouts on Texans, you would still need to calculate with a 14.3% global average on solar capacity.
