Thanks Eric. You are spot on with safety regarding nuclear - and this is exactly the rootcause of the problem. Due to public fears so much safety measures (both mechanical and burocratic) had to be implemented that by now we have to build a super-complex, ultra-expensive defense mechanism around each reactor. This costs a lot of money, and energy - which we might never see again if we consider that highly radioactive spent fuel rods will have to be burried under miles of hard granite. To put it short: the energy invested in all these safety activities became the Achilles-heel of nuclear, preventing positive energy returns to society.
