It is difficult for people to hold two seemingly opposing views at the same time, it seems. Like climate change is bad AND renewables are just as bad (for a different reason). The thing that you've pointed out - the key to resolve this apparent conflict - is that we are in overshoot, and as long as we don't decrease our impact on the planet and shrink back our population and consumption combined below carrying capacity, all our efforts will be in vain. This message though seems harder to get through than to put Micky Mouse in person on the surface of Pluto... So we keep telling, they keep fighting strawmen and fake dichotomies until natural correction just happens on its own terms.
