If that would be the case (a mass switch to batteries) then we would see a sudden uptick in mining for battery metals, resulting in larger than ever diesel use in that sector. So, if a changeover to batteries is to take place initially we would need more - not less oil. Although in the long term demand would surely decline. The case I'm making, is that we are not there yet, probably we are in the early phase of that uptick in mining, and based on the studies I referenced in my article we would be facing serious supply issues well before mining for metals could really take off.
