I very much think so. Politicians have vested interests in promoting population growth, as higher numbers result higher tax revenues and more workers while helping to maintain the illusion that our current retirement benefit system (and our culture in general) is sustainable - while it's absolutely not. Industrialists also push the same bandwagon, as more workers mean more competition among employees, resulting in lower wages and a bigger pool to select the best candidates from - thus they sponsor politicians and international organizations promoting the idea of growing populations. It's a win-win until we become less and less able to feed ourselves, as minerals like potassium and methane used in fertilizer production start to run low.
