I fully understand your concerns and feelings towards Ukraine, and its people. It also fills me with horror to see what has been done to this country and millions of its residents. Trust me, I wish no similar fate to any country in the world. You ask questions about Moldova and Georgia: both of those incidents were preceded with an offer made by the US to join its military alliance, contrary to Russia's concerns and fears of being completely surrounded by military bases (NATO summit, 2008). If you think these concerns are invalid, just look back what has happened in Cuba half a century ago. No nuclear superpower can tolerate foreign military bases within 5 minutes rocket flight time to its capital: neither the US, nor Russia. In Syria Assad invited Russia to participate on its side, to prevent a complete US takeover (like in Iraq).

As per energy security and thinking seven generations ahead: as I wrote every country in the world should be on a path towards degrowth and giving up on excess energy use - regardless where it happens. We face a global decline in fossil fuel availability, not to mention climate change. This topic will not be solved by giving Russia what it wants, this is not the point here. The point I'm trying to make is that there is this country which acts like an empire, lights fires all around the world, then masquerades as a defender of freedom while it makes hell of a profit on weapons sales, and now fossil fuel sales too, to its former allies. None of this bloodshed would have happened if this empire were acting in a way which it expected from the rest of the world.
