Hi Frederick, thank you for your response! I agree with you on debt as a driver of resource extraction (funny, I just finished the draft of my next post on money when I read your response). My two main concerns with "renewables" (both solar and wind, and the others) is that they still require a lot of mineral resources (and a lot of fossil energy) and we will most probably run out of those before we could make a meaningful change. Plus they are hopelessly intermittent and scattered compared to the concentrated 24/7 high heat from fossils. Using Earth as a battery is good concept (I also tought about using the oceans as a giant pool of battery liquid); the timescale to refill Earth though will be on a geological scale I'm affraid, and ultimately will have to be left to plants - the only proven way to capture sunlight in a truly renewable way.
