All good points. As I came to see things, these sacrifices are not made willingly, or even consciously - "that's just the way it is". Most people cannot imagine a way of life other than this, governed by finance, and for a good reason. Every movie you watch, or every class you take in the western world depicts the current world order as the pinnacle of cultural evolution, and scares people away from any other form of living.
